The teachings of Lutherans can be summarized in three phrases:
Grace Alone: God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against him and do not deserve love. He sent Jesus, His Son , to love the unlovable and save the ungodly. (Sola Gratia)
Faith Alone: By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness of sins through Him (Sola Fide)
Scripture Alone: The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine. (Sola Scriptura)
St. John's seeks to provide a firm foundation in the education of the Christian faith. Religion is not simply taught as an "extra" subject, but rather a way of life that permeates everything that we do. As a child progresses through each grade level, s/he learns more and more of the chief doctrines of the Bible. Each child systematically learns doctrine, prayers, Bible verse, and hymns through memorization and instruction.
St. John's athletic programs strive to provide a setting for our student athletes to use their God-given physical and leadership abilities and display Christ-like character in all situations. A well organized and managed athletic program conveys many biblical principles taught by our Lord Jesus. Unity, others first, stewardship, commitment, self-control and respect for authority are all magnified when individuals work together to build a team that honors the Lord.
